Stack Overflow IE 8, and 9

Ever since loading the last set of patches for Internet Explorer (8 or 9) running on  Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 receive a popup about stack overflow.  Click on OK and IE closes and will not start up until I reboot.

removing the latest patches does not resolve the problem.

Duplicated the problem a clean install of Windows 7 Pro.  Applied the updates, and IE generating a stack over flow, and closes.

Any Ideas?

Internet Explorer 8

Hello,

We have a Kiosk computer with 2 (dual) monitors.

OS -> Windows 7 32 bit. IE 8

When I reboot the PC.  Is there a way to have IE8 come up on 2 monitors with 2 different websites?

Meaning: When I reboot.  If before I reboot, I have Monitor 1 with IE 8 running an instance of the home page (Ex. MSN) and Monitor 2 with IE8 running an instance of Google.  When the PC reboots and comes back online I login and on Monitor1 IE8 comes online with the home page (EX. MSN) and Monitor 2 comes online with Google.   I have tried nView and WindowManager and they do not work with what I am asking.

Would you let me know if we can do it with the current OS and IE or if there is a third party tool that I can use to obtain the above?

Thank you for your help.

We have an existing project to further secure our production VPN by installing SSL Cert's on all Proofpoint owned client machines. We already have created an internal CA infrastructure.  We need to ensure the proper deployment process for SSL's to all Mac and Linux clients.

Ensure that self signed SSL Cert's can be procured for client systems such as Mac and Linux.  Develop method to distribute these SSL to Proofpoint assigned client machines.

Any Relief in Sight for IE10's Degraded Font Rendering?

IE10 has been a part of Windows 8 in both preview and released form for a long time, and Microsoft still hasn't fixed the botched font rendering.

There's a reason the people who invented ClearType put in the color-assist.  It effectively triples your monitor's horizontal resolution by lighting up individual columns of red, green, blue. It's just NOT THERE in IE10 on Windows 8

Been wondering why you're feeling more eye strain?  Now you know.  Look at it closely with the Magnifier application if you don't believe me.  Compare text rendered inside IE with that in menus or other apps.

There is a ClearType Text Tuner dialog provided by Windows that could be used to dial it down or even turn it off, for those who didn't like the color, for versions prior to IE10.  Now Microsoft has forced the NO COLOR decision on every Windows 8 user, regardless of the ClearType tuner setting.  Color assist is OFF and you can't turn it on.

Why?

Maybe it's being done to support the Surface or other tablets (e.g., so rotations can be done graphically without forcing a repaint or something).  Fine.  Microsoft also sells Windows 8 with IE10 to run on the billion or so actual computers with 100ish ppi monitors already out there in the world (that don't rotate), right?  So make it configurable.  It already worked (andstill works with the IE10 RP on Windows 7) - it's not like something new has to be invented.  It's not even consistent in different parts of IE10, as you can see above!

What's the point in delivering a font rendering scheme that is blurred and inconsistent by comparison to the prior version or other browsers (or even IE10 on Windows 7)? Since when is "almost as good" good enough?  It's not like it never worked before.  IE has been about faithfully maintaining compatibility with past browsers, but apparently not in this.

IE10 RP on Windows 7 has the color-assist, and it follows the ClearType tuner setting.  Will Microsoft attempt to degrade Windows 7 through Windows Update by releasing the final version of IE10 without it?  Let's hope not.

My IE 9 keeps freezing or locking up.  I have tried MrFixIt, checking for malware, resetting it and using software instead of GPU rendering.  Any other suggestions?

HTML 5 Local and Session Storage

I am trying to figure out where browsers that support HTML 5 actually store the data they persist as Session or Local storage.  I assume that, since Session Storage persists only as long as the browser window that created it exists, the data is stored in memory.  Is that a correct assumption?

What about Local Storage?  Since it persists between browser sessions, it must be persisted to disk, but where?  Is there a maximum lifetime assigned to Local Storage?

I did a number of searches and I can find all kinds of information on exactly what these types of storage are but nothing on the mechanics of them

Thanks

Disable / Hide the "Run" button in the IE Download Dialog Box

Hi All,

I work in a school with 1500 students. One big issue we face is the following:

1. Student e-mails themselves work from home.
2. Student logs into e-mail in school.
3. Student finds e-mailled attachment and clicks on it to download.
4. Student clicks RUN on the IE dialog box.
5. Student works on file for an hour or so and then clicks SAVE.
6. User logs off.

The issue here being that they presume their work is saved to their mapped documents drive, but instead, it is being saved in the IE temp location in their profile. It is also worth mentioning that our students run mandatorary profiles! Therefore as soon as they log off, all of the updates they have made are lost.

My question is:

Is there a way of disabling/hiding the RUN button in this IE dialog box. I would still like to have the SAVE option, but would be great if I could get rid of that run button.

Any help would be really appreciated and hopefully it willcut down the amount of upset kids!

Kind Regards,
Dave

Internet Explorer - Slow Proxy Authentication

Hello Guys,

I identified a problem of slowness for users to authenticate to the proxy, but this problem does not occur when I disable the option "Check for server certificate revocation" in Internet Explorer.

You know if it's safe I disable this option or if there is something else in Internet Explorer I can do to minimize this problem?

Thank you all.

Web Archive *.mht can not be opened by IE9

I have a number of *.mht files saved by IE8 which open correctly with IE8 but after installing IE9 I am unable to open these *.mht files to view the contents.

To solve the problem, I have uninstalled IE9 and *.mht files are now opened correctly by IE8 again. Until IE9 is able to provide the same functionality for *.mht files then I have no intention of upgrading to IE9.

XHTML does not render using specified stylesheet when opened from local drive, but it does from network drive.

I have an xhtml which opens fine using the specified stylesheet (stored in the same folder) when opened from a network share. However, when I move it (and the stylesheet) to the local C: drive and try to open it, it just shows the code of the xhtml file and not the rendered page based on the stylesheet. Does anyone know what setting/policy might be blocking this?

I'm using a domain connected Windows XP (SP3) machine with Internet Explorer 8.

Internet Explorer 10 Issues

I am having issues with my internet explorer 10 in windows 8.  Pictures aren't loading on different websites and functionality doesn't seem to work either.

For example, I visit Foxnews.com and the pictures at the bottom of the page simply will not load.  And if I visit Facebook, the entire Chatsystem doesn't function either.  I have tried Compatibility mode (all possible) on both of these sites and this has not fixed the issue.  I have also tried resetting the browser to default settings and this didn't help either.  However, if I use the Metro version of IE10, all seems to be back to normal.  Is there a way to uninstall and re-install IE?  Thank you.

Disabling the Java web plug-in

We've starting testing a method to disable the Java web plug-in in IE. We're using the registry settings from the KB athttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2751647. We've been able to push these settings from Group Policy successfully. We have however noticed that there are still a few plug-ins that are not affected by this change:

Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper

Java(tm) Plug-In SSV Helper

Are these Plug-Ins to be worried about and if so, does anyone have the registry settings to disable them?

User cannot properly display OWA using IE9

$

Hi

I have a user on a Windows 7 laptop running IE9 who suddenly cannot get into Outlook Web Access on an SBS 2003 server. This was working before -- as late as last night -- but not now, and I can't figure out how to fix it.

When the user hits the OWA page, he is presented with side-by-side login forms:

When he logs in on one of the forms (say, the left one), he gets a partial Inbox view showing  basically just his folder tree. He can't navigate the site otherwise.

I was having trouble visualizing what he was telling me over the phone until I got this picture. In the meantime:

1) I had him enable Compatibility View for the page. Didn't help.

2) I had him clear the cache. Didn't help.

3) I had him reset IE to system defaults. Didn't help.

I can log into OWA with his account just fine from here, using Firefox 18 and IE 8.

Is this some odd IE9 feature with which I'm unaware? How do I fix this?

Thanks

Caching

After updating an html file (taken from a previous/template file) I saved my changes, copied to my server’s pub folder, and posted the URL onto Facebook. Then I noticed that I forgot to change the title. How-come the title from old won’t go away? I tried numerous things (like copying to diskette to remove security permissions) and re-posted. Is Facebook caching, or my computer?
