IE 9
Whenever I have a program/document that has an embedded link to a webpage the link opens an MS Word read only document with portions of the target webpage rather than the webpage itself. If I open exporer on its own and go to the webpage it works fine. Any idea what is happening or what needs to be changed? This just started in the last 4-6 weeks.

my internet explorer 10 on windows 8 doesn't have "enable memory protection to mitigate online attacks" I have searched on advance settings and couldn't find it. how do I disable it because one of the software that we use need it unchecked

I manage a Corporate network where we use group policy to implement fairly tight IE9 security for the Internet Zone and use "Trusted Sites" and site to zone assignment to gain full functionality of sites in the "Trusted Sites" list.
The issue I have is certain trusted sites make data calls (e.g. google apis etc) and I have identified these with IE Developer tools and Firefox/firebug. Where we have seen these we have added to trusted sites but we still have sites in our trusted zone where certain fucntionality fails unless I slacked security settings in the "Internet Zone".
Question is do I need to use a full protocol analyser to identify these or is there an alternative approach? I wondered perhaps if there is A Group Policy setting that allows all sites in my "Trusted Zone" to call from any other site using the settings of the Trusted zone (I realise that secuirty wise this is not ideal but the overhead for managing this is getting too high).

have more than 60pcs connected on network , WSUS feeding them the updates, but after updating KB2799329 IE 8 having problem to start, it initiates but no website display ,if i try to reset all IE options , the tab is not opening, kindly help me out

I am developing a monitoring software. Where I want to record the information about file downloads from the IE. I am looking for the event DISPID_FILEDOWNLOAD and whenever this event signaled I am recording the URL and Download File Name. But for IE8 this got fired twice. Example link below.
"http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8279" If I click on "DOWNLOAD" button that redirects me for confirmation, information bar appears "To help Protect your security, IE blocked this site...." (The first DISPID_FILEDOWNLOAD event signaled here). And When I right click and click on "Download File" another event DISPID_FILEDOWNLOAD signalled. But for IE9 it happens only once, as there was no prompt.
Can somebody suggest me alternate solution. How can I know about actual download? and I don't see IE8 and IE9 use IEFrame!DoFileDownLoad? Is there any API that I can hook to know about the FileDownload.

When I click on a favorite from the favorites bar I want it to open in a new tab by default -
I know I can right click to select a menu item to do this each time, but I want it to be the default action.
How can I configure IE10 to do this?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit using IE9. I have all updates, I'm running Security Essentials and I've scanned my computer.
Different websites display different messages:
Download.com - When I type in the url and hit enter, it displays a page as if I used google search to find a web site. When I click on the correct website in the search results (which I didn't request), it then displays a page that says This Page Cannot be Displayed, I then click on troubleshoot the problem and it finds no problems.
When I go to mail.yahoo.com, it will either give me a screen that says "Object has moved here" and the word "here" is a link. I click on it and nothing happens.
If I go to yahoo.com and login from the main page, I can login but the page that is displayed is text with everything displayed on the left of the screen, if I click on any of the text/links, it opens a new tab and displays the same info.
I quite often get the screen that a website is unreachable, I run the troubleshooter and no problems are found.
I have went back to IE8 to no avail and I've also installed the IE10 windows 7 preview.
I'm totally confused as to what is going on. Hopefully somewhat has experienced the same issues and has found a way to remedy them.

Sometime over the last few weeks Google's "More" drop-down and its "Search Tools" menu items have quit working. The other buttons that let you select web, images, shopping, etc. still work properly.
The "More" and "Search Tools" buttons get focus when the mouse is over them and they animate when clicked but nothing happens. I have Google Chrome installed and they work properly on that browser.
I've googled it but most of the posts found are about a not-quite-the-same problem of the buttons just working momentarily. At any rate, I tried the fix [clearing casche and cookies] that some of the said worked but it didn't make any difference.
I've disabled all of the ad-ons and the problem is still there. I re-enabled each add-on one at a time and tried it but none of them had any effect.
I've disable my Norton Security Suite and the problem still exists.
I've reset IE and, other than losing all of my passwords, it too made no difference.
Does anyone have the solution for this, or at least and idea of what the problem is?

The fact that Utube is not a good source for info about which IE is installed is irrelevent. The fact still remains I can't view or link to certain sites because they tell me I don't have the latest version of IE9 WHICH I DO. SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION??????

I have a SharePoint 2003 environment. Some pages contain web parts that display .ppt PowerPoint files. This works great on IE6. On IE8, instead of displaying them, the browser prompts me to download them or simply opens them in PowerPoint.
Please help.
Whenever I'm online surfing the web and I go to a website I want to join, I notice at the bottom of the site the Internet Explorer asks if I want them to SAVE the password. Ususally, I respond "yes." Never thinking to request the password later, because I have a password book for all joined programs, social cliubs, shopping stores. But today, I needed a password that I know IE saved and I cannot locate this information.
Safari does the same thing and responds when I return to a particular site with the User name and password. Please help.

I've come to like the sync'ing of history, favorites etc. between IE10 running on multiple Windows 8 PCs very much.
But I haven't been able to understand when the sync actually takes places. It seems that in some cases it doesn't, or maybe I have to wait (?) before e.g. a new favorite is propagated to other machines.
Next to that, I often "reorganize favorites" by moving them around the filesystem in Windows Explorer or even using scripts, as the "Organize favorites" feature within IE itself is just painfully slow and definitely not meant for heavy use (e.g. move all top-level favorites to a "Misc." subfolder).
How can I tell IE to "rescan" the filesystem and force a sync "out" (i.e. "to the cloud")?
How can I then tell IE on an other machine to force a sync "in" (i.e. "from the cloud")?
(if code needs to be written (C++/C#/PowerShell...) that's no problem for me)
