I first noticed the issue several weeks ago, though I can't determine any single event which triggered it (e.g. no virus, no software install, etc.) Since that time I have been pulling my hair out, search the internet for answers, searching MS for answers, searching books for answers - without success. Finally, I'm resorting to a forum submission, and I'll switch to FireFox immediately after since no clear fix appears to be around.
Please - someone help me; I've tried everything I've seen/read:
Issue 1: Some web pages display images without issue (www.microsoft.com,www.newegg.com, www.tigerdirect.com, etc.) while others fail to show images at all, and appear more text based than GUI based. A good test for this was several web sites includedwww.amazon.com which fails to show book covers, eletronic images etc. while other pieces show text positioned correctly, and links work when you float over them and click.
What I've tried (1):
- Running FixIt from MS for Internet Explorer; clearing all cache (password, temp internet files, cookies, forms, etc.); Reseting to "factory" defaults; running a registry cleaner application; following every setting defined on the net I could find and finding them set alike, removing any/all tracking web sites from the list. (This is all true for either Internet Explorer version - 32b or 64b)
Issue 2: Installation of ActiveX control from known safe locations (such as Microsoft) fail to install. This is true for both versions of IE (32b and 64b). To try and figure out what the issue is, I've again searched the internet, and followed everything I can find.

FAILURE on all fronts... :(
Does anyone know of any solution anywhere - no matter how painful?
Please let me know either by reply here or by sending a private message or how ever best works for any one - I'm will to try anything at this point.
Thank you all in advance.

Additional information:
After switching to FireFox (hopefully for only a short term), I followed instructions to delete Internet Explorer from my system.
It didn't work... IE (32b and 64b) remained. Not only did it remain, it kept what ever is wrong with it as well. Still no satisfaction.
If any one can help, I'd really appreciate it...
