IE9 issues with JAVASCRIPT using Vista- please help

Hi,

I've searched these forums, found many with same problems as me, but none seem to get a successful response- so now it's my turn to try.

The following issues begun a few days ago, seemingly from nowhere. Prior to this, all seemed to be working fine for a long period of time.

#1- IE9 will not display anything requiring javascript- one of the websites I try to use says:

Link request not permitted

The link you have tried to click will not work for one of the following reasons:

  1. The link request is to an application that requires JavaScript, and you have JavaScript disabled.
  2. You have opened the link in a new browser tab, which is not allowed for this link.

Please try enabling JavaScript, or click to open the link via the active browser tab.

However, active scripting is enabled...

#2- Windows Sidebar has stopped working- no gadgets will display, let alone work.

#3- McAfee Security window will not display- simply comes up as a blank white square in middle of the screen.

#4- Media Player also began having problems at the same time- it would not open, but I ran a Microsoft Auto Fix and this corrected the problem.

As yet, I am not aware of further issues...

I have:

- ensured active scripting is enabled

- reset IE9

- played around with any relevant option in Internet Options that I thought could help- all to no benefit.

- have attempted to reinstall IE9, but a prompt tells me that this cannot be done as their is a more recent version installed- obviously one that I am unaware of. About IE still lists the version as IE9

- I regularly install "Important" Windows updates, but not optional updates- I wonder if this has had an effect?

This is all the relevant information I can think of- it is quite an annoying issue, so your help would be appreciated.

*** Please note that everything works fine in Chrome, and I have posted this using Chrome.

Regards
