Can't log on - 'Web browser is sending a WWW-Authenticate header field...'

An end users logs onto our company website from his home, and has had no trouble in the past. Unfortunately, he had a some 'security' company remote into his computer and 'check security settings' for him. Until then, he was able to log in.

Now, when he goes to the login page, he gets this message:

You are not authorized to view this page You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied because your Web browser is sending a WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to accept.

I haven't made an onsite visit yet, and the end users is not tech-savvy. Any ideas as to what to look for in his browser? I tried to talk him through changing Security settings, but it didn't help.

He uses Windows 7 and IE8.

Thanks for your help.
