IE & Self signed certificate behaviour

When I browse my secure web page.  IE gives me a warning that "There is a problem with this website's security certificate."  If I choose the option "Continue to this website (not recommended), the web page loads & I can see the content, click some other links on the page & do every operation.

Now, when I open a link from the page, does IE validates the certificate again? since I have not received any certificate warning I am assuming that IE is not validating the certificate again. Only when I close the web page & browse again the same I see the certificate warning again.

So, does it mean that IE is temporarily accepting the certificate ? how long IE will trust that web page. Can someone help me understand this particular behaviour or give me any RFC on this behavior.

Thanks & Regards,
Baji.
