IE 9 intermitently freezes.

I have a strange issue where at seemingly random intervals my Internet Explorer will show the new tab screen but not let me do anything else. When I click New Tab, it will stay on the current tab play the open tab animation (the frequent squares growing slightly). When in this state the settings menu leaves most items grayed out.




This issue started in IE9 but has continued into IE10. My Windows 7 and IE are both up to date and I am not running any add-ons and have run a virus scan. Also I can't seem to find any information to the freeze in Event Viewer.

Currently I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling, resetting IE and a few other fixes from TechNet but none seem to work.

Ideas?
