Smartscreen filter att E-mail problem

When while using my laptop with Vista, I try to delete E-mail messages on my att.net account (which runs somehow under yahoo.com) by checking the message to be deleted and clicking (right mouse button) on the Delete box on the screen, nothing happens.  The same delete function works just fine on my desktop under windows 7.  The delete also works fine on my laptop in safe mode with networking.  When I found out about the Smartscreen filter, I decide to disable it to see if it had an effect, and it did: the E-mail message Delete function worked properly once again with Windows running in normal mode.  It seems as though Smartscreen sometimes "eats" the mouse click, blocking it from going to the E-mail web site to take effect.

By the way, the mouse click worked normally with Smartscreen enabled for other functions on the att E-mail screen.  Also with Smartscreen enabled, I did not noiced any other problems with using right click on  internet explorer screens with other web sites.  I use IE 8.0 on my laptop.

So, does anyone know how risky is it to run with Smartscreen disabled?  (I use McAfee Total Protection for my Firewall and Virus and Spywareprotection).

Also, is there a workaround to run with Smartscreen enabled and have the att E-mail delete work as it should with a mouse click?
