cannot open any attachments on IE 9

Hi,

I have IE 9 on Windows 7 64 bit. I am unable to open or save any attachments from my gmail or yahoo mail or hotmail. I have tried the following things -

1. Under internet options, advanced, under security uncheck the " do not save encripted files to disk"* - DID NOT WORK

2. IE is running with no add-ons, so I checked that too

3. I disabled all the add-ons

4. I have reset the IE too

5. I also uninstalled IE and reverted back to IE 8, but that does something strange to my laptop. I am then unable to search for anything or run any command in the 'run'window of IE9. 

Nothings worked! I will be grateful if someone can 'help me out.
