Having 'back button' problem with IE 9

I had a similar problem before but it was because of a nasty rootkit virus that made me reinstall Win 7.

This is different because when I right-click the back arrow icon, the list is filled with some 20-30 entries of what looks like duplicate cookie addresses. It's different everytime. The only one I recognize is doubleclick.com. They keep me from using the back button because I would have to click it some 30 times to get back to my last page.

Is this some new tactic used by companies to keep you on their website or something? Or could it be popup ads that were blocked by IE's popup blocker?
