I’m having serious problems with the IE9 VIEW DOWNLOAD facility; it isn’t working. That prevents me from downloading anything from the Internet as, the traditional RUN/SAVE prompts don’t appear.
Background info:
I run three PCs in our house:
2 WIN XP (SP3) configurations with the latest IE8. These machines are OK and the IE8 functions and facilities are robust and reliable.
Both machines run <personname w:st="on">Norton</personname> Antivirus 2011.
My latest machine, recently purchased, came with
Windows 7 and IE9 (V 9.0.8112.16421) pre-installed.
Both the 32 and 64 bit versions of IE9 are on the machine.
I tried both but neither had any effect on the problem.
This desktop PC is an HP Pavilion p7-1243 64 bit model with
8MB (DDR3) and a 1 TB HD with the latest <personname w:st="on">Norton</personname> Internet Security also pre-installed.
What I tried to do to resolve the problem:
- In IE9: TOOLS à INTERNET OPTIONS à DOWNLOADS à AUTOMATIC PROMPTING à ENABLED. This had no effect on the problem.
- Again in IE9 : TOOLS à INTERNET OPTIONS à ADVANCED à RESET. This deleted all personal settings and restored the defaults and had no effect.
- I uninstalled all applications that I loaded on the machine (e.g. Office 2003) without effect on the problem
- I ran a SYSTEM RESTORE that brought the machine back to its original state. The vendor (BestBuy) couldn’t help me with the IE9 problem
- Checked Internet and found this problem widespread with the earliest discussions dating back to late 2010. Reverting to IE8 is not practical with a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I saw suggestions to switch to FIREFOX. I tried that and it works but I would much prefer to stay with IE9.
Is Microsoft aware of this problem? Is there a solution on the horizon?
Best regards,
p
