funmoods: jammed in internet explorer 8

I'm having difficulty cleaning up the damage left behind by funmoods. This is a real swine of an infection. I uninstalled the Funmoods toolbar, I ran malwarebytes, both a quick scan and full scan in safe mode, it found and deleted several items. I deleted junk add-ons in IE8. I went through IE8 options and cleaned up and reset everything I saw including all the add-ons and search providers. I also put a block on the funmoods cookie. I also ran the ms fixit at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378. I've been to the search section and deleted the junk I saw there.
But still whenever I use IE8 I get a pop-up window that says:
'a program on your computer has corrupted your default provider setting
for internet explorer.
Internet explorer has reset this setting to your original search
provider Funmoods (searchfunmoods.com)
Internet explorer will now open search settings where you can change
this setting or install more search providers'.

I've been googling for hours over this trying different things.I don't like using system restore.
is there anything on this planet that will clean this thing out?
