I am/was somewhat of a pc tech (system/net admin for small utility)/CADD operator ;)...
Using Windows 7 HP 64bit, 8GB RAM, core i7, Toshiba P755-S5120.
My other web browsers work just fine... Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari.
Only recently, on this home laptop, my x86 version of Internet Explorer 9 ceased loading pages, while the regular 64bit'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe' works fine.
I have...
...a 10mb/1mb cable connect which speedtest.net reports as 12.12mb/.96mb (at the moment ;)
...run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -private -extoff -nohome ...and this does not resolve the problem
...reset my Internet Options to defaults
...disabled my Avast! antivirus
...run C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe (32bit cmd prompt, yes?) and pinged website alpha-names and seen them resolve and reply, as well as using tracert (which isn't particularly as fast)... average ping to google.com shows 45ms from Anchorage, AK
...uninstalled/reinstalled java, flash, shockwave(by manual download or 64bit download)... which may have helped, a little, as now I can...
...run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" and open simple websites, such as http://www.battoexeconverter.com and this works fine, opening the page each and every time, even when set as IE9 home page
...but... try to open bing.com, google.com, my ISP, various other pages... and it results usually in the tab name indicating it's finished loading (site name, with no spinning arrow), yetthe page remains blank white... other times it's indefinitely loading and IE9 eventually indicates (Not responding).
I have tried icloud.com, which again, on the tab, indicates it has finished loading... with ablack blank page (as icloud's page has a black background ;).
I can sometimes get complex pages to render if I keep fiddling, but I can't isolate/reproduce it consistently... however, it usually results in a 'frozen' page; just now my Toshiba website rendered (http://start.toshiba.com)... but then IE9 32bit freezes (not responding) with a 'Recover webpage' button being shown on bottom pop-up bar. If I try to recover, usually it will then indicate 'not responding' and 'checking for a solution' and give me a blank white page. (The visual thumbnails on taskbar will have the spinner even though the tab name does not.)
I can, more consistently, get a complex webpage to fail to render.
I can click the 'new tab' button and get new tabs... when a complex tab freezes, still move to other tabs. I can pop-down the Favorites list. I can close the IE9 32bit browser... usually ...by clicking the upper right 'X'.
I have installed Fiddler2, but I'm not experienced working with it... I just noted someone with a similar problem saying that, when they had Fiddler2 running, they could surf the web fine with IE9 32bit (but had same page fail problem with-out- Fiddler2 running). This does not seem to be the case for me... Fiddler2 is not magically fixing page rendering. I was thinking of trying the .NET Fiddler4 version.
(My Sidebar gadgets continue to work... one is dependent on Flash.)
Apparently I can't (simply) set IE9 64bit as the default browser... and I can't uninstall/reinstall IE9... and I can't reinstall over the top, because the current install is 'newer'. Ihave had to set default browser to something else.
Any suggestions on how to unblock this 32bit IE9 that can't handle the more complex pages?
Or how to isolate exactly what web-language/etc is tripping it up?? ...so I could potentially fix it???
